I thought that the ending of House this season would be enough to easily get me through the summer. Two weeks in and I'm already wanting more. And who wouldn't with the amazing Huddy ending we got? In order to pass the unbearably long summer hiatus, I'm going to take a closer look at season six and pick out some of this season's most memorable moments.
Most Gratuitous Exit and Break-up:
This easily goes to Cameron's exit and her and Chase's break-up. Can you believe how long ago that seems? I was thinking about seasons 1-3 and how honest Cameron was with House. I miss her input and hopefully in season 7, we'll get to see her and Chase back together. If he isn't taking care of Thirteen, that is. I wasn't a fan of these two breaking up, although "Lockdown" did a semi-decent job of giving us fans closure.
Best Break-up:
This honor obviously goes to Cuddy and her man-child Lucas. Those of us that were praying for these two painfully mismatched souls to break up were finally rewarded at season's end. Cheers to Luddy's demise and Huddy's rise.
Funniest Moments:
This is hard to pick, but the funniest episode by far this year to me was "The Down Low" and the scene where Wilson proposes to House. No one does comedy as well as Robert Sean Leonard and Hugh Laurie and their gay/straight act was hilarious. Second runner up goes to Wilson's porn: "Feral Pleasures." Be not afraid. And I can't forget House rapping in "Broken" with Alvie. Oh, and Thirteen and Wilson playing truth or dare! And lest we forget speed dating! Choices, choices.
Throw Your Remote at the TV Scene(s):
This category exists because of how mean Cuddy was to House in "Ignorance is Bliss." I need to call that with the middle Huddy scene in "Help Me" and raise it with the scene at the end of "Known Unknowns" where Lucas was talking too much and letting House know he knew all about his delusions with Cuddy.
House Break-Through:
In "Wilson," House finally admits that people can change. Granted, he did it with a metaphor of a table, but it was out there. In "Lockdown," he admitted to actually being changed by Lydia who in the end, opened the door for Cuddy to come in. Nolan would be proud. Until he quit therapy, that is.
Most Angsty Huddy Scene:
This goes to the end of "The Choice." Sigh. I still get a little upset thinking about House's admission to Cuddy's statement about wanting to be friends: "Funny, that's the last thing I want us to be."
Most Vulnerable House Moment:
There was nothing quite like House when he went to see Nolan at the end of "Broken." Or in the middle of "Broken" with Lydia. Or when he was telling Hanna to amputate her leg in "Help Me." Did anyone else realize that the words "Help me" were the first muttered in season 6 by House at the beginning of "Broken?" Think that symmetry was on purpose? I'd love to think so.
Most Interesting POTW:
I don't know about anyone else, but I loved the sociopath in "Remorse." Her acting was great and it was great seeing how unnerved Thirteen was by her presence. I also loved the storyline and the ideas and themes surrounding the patient in "The Choice." Does House count as a patient? In "Baggage" or in "Broken?" If so, I pick him.
Best Guest Stars:
Easily Andre Brauer (Nolan) who I could have seen a lot more of and not gotten sick of and Lin Manuel-Miranda (Alvie), both making reappearances in "Baggage." Would love to see either or both back in season 7, but maybe that's wishful thinking. I predict House will be back in therapy next season though. He will do anything to make things work with Cuddy, and that includes continuing to try and fix what he thinks needs fixing in himself.
Best Musical Moments:
House and Alvie rapping. The cello girl playing at the end of "Broken." House, Foreman, and Chase singing "Midnight Train to Georgia." Radiohead's "No Surprises" at the beginning of "Broken." "Time after Time" in "Known Unknowns." And "Safety Dance."
Best Hilson Moments:
I liked the moment in "Wilson" where House admitted that without Wilson, he'd be alone. Also when Wilson is singing "One." And of course House busting Wilson about "Feral Pleasures."
Best Huddy Moments:
The dance in "Known Unknowns." The make-out proposal in "Private Lives." "I'm gonna miss you" in "Epic Fail." "You do make me feel funny," in "Brave Heart." The car scene and House's smile at Cuddy's success in "5 to 9." The end of "The Choice." And, "Help Me." The middle when House confessed to the patient about how his leg pain hardened him and of course, the end, which any Huddy lover went nuts over. 'I love you. I wish I didn't. But I can't help it." The soft kiss. Cuddy's smile. The hand hold. Arguably, this Huddy moment might be one of the best of the series. At least the most honest, anyway.
Best Episode:
Why is it always the beginning and the end of seasons that are the most impressive? I can only imagine how hard it is to keep up the intensity and amazing storylines throughout, but the best episodes this year were "Broken" and "Help Me." No contest. Showing House's vulnerable side matched with brilliant acting and writing all around made these two episodes the best bookends ever for any season of House. Although, an honorable mention goes to "Baggage" for me. I'm a sucker for In Treatment type episodes and learning more about House's thought process.
Did I get it right? I'll be writing up a season 7 wish list in the future, but for now, tell me if I missed anything amazing this season. Or make up your own category and fill it in!
